Drain the oil and gas out. Change the spark plug and check the air filter. there is a hole underneath that a socket extension bar will fit into. That drains the oil out once you unscrew it. Dieing out could be a bad spark plug. Cheap and easy fixes, but also good yearly maintenance....

If you tipped it to the side to clean under the deck, you probably got oil all over the filter causing the filter restrict the flow of air into the engine.
If it's a Honda engine, the choke tends to get stick as the machine gets older. You may need to physicaly move the choke back to the runing possition with your finger behind the air filter housing.
If you recently added oil, it may be over full causing the breather to suck oil.
You may have a problematic carburator that leaks gas while sitting. The gas will work it's way past the piston, mixing with the engine oil, and raising the oil level.
You may have a realy dirty air filter. Remove it and try running it for a short time without it.
Good luck.
Oh, also a faulty gas cap will stop gas from getting to the carburator after a short time, and the engine will die....

You never what kinda smoke, blue to white is oil...... black is too much fuel.
Gas in the oil, or a over heating engine to wornout rings will cause oil burning..... there's also the possibility of a faulty breather or blown head gasket (if its a ohv engine).
Black? If thats so, carb rebuild.

Your mixture is too rich, back off on the choke. Have you recently added oil to your engine? Perhaps you have added too much?
