Thread (or other materials like surgical staples)for stitches

2006-07-23 04:30:24 · answer #1 · answered by JackJester 5 · 0 0

It's a material that they use for stitches after surgery. I've heard it called "cat gut". I asked my doctor if it was really guts from cats. He hesitated to answer. He said that cat gut has been used because it will desolve in your body. However, that other animals are commonly used. He might of been messing with me, I'm not sure. All I know is that I'm highly allergic to it. I swell up like a balloon and break out in a horrible rash! I'm also allergic to cats so, there could be a link. Hopefully, suture really is made of silk.
