I need to boot from a CD Rom, and I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop.

Also, it does not say any key on startup. F8 it for startup options not including boot order.

For IBM Thinkpad:

Pressing F1 during startup when the ThinkPad logo is displayed.

Then it will take you to the blue screen where you can do your bios setup.

During the boot process, press and hold the [Delete] key to go in to the boot setup. Most PC's use the [Delete] key but it varies among computer manufacturers. If the [Delete] key doesn't work then you need to consult your PC owner's manual.

To go in to safe mode, during the boot process, press and hold the [F8] key.

F8 - for XP. But if you want to boot from an optical device you'll have to edit your bios or "setup".

Not always, to show BIOS It could be F2 or ESC - Usally it says on start up.
