One of the primary factors I look at for a great ball player is consistency under pressure.

Under A, of the three offered, I would pick Derek Jeter, only because there are too many negatives associated with the other two, A-Rod and Barry Bonds.

Under B, I would pick Mickey Mantle because Mantle was a great inspiration for his team mates and was able to play through personal injuries and great physical pain. And, Mantle could beat out an infield shot to the third baseman or shortstop.

When Babe Ruth broke the record by hitting 60 home runs in 1927, the "Sultan of Swat"broke his own record of hitting 59 home a few years earlier. So, there was consistency with Ruth.

Add that point to the supposed myth or fact that Ruth told one of the greatest pitchers, Satchel Paige, that he, Ruth, told Paige ahead of time he would hit a home run prior to the game. When Ruth rounded third after hitting a home run, the first one to greet him was Satchel Paige congratulating Ruth on his home run.

Of course Joe DiMaggio was consistent and his 56 consecutive hitting streak in 1941 made The Yankee Clipper a great ball player. And, in 1933, DiMaggio had a 61 game hitting streak when he played for the San Francisco Seals with the Pacific Coast League I know all of that.

However, there is much doubt, when Joe was announced at old timers day about being the greatest living ball player, when Willie Mays and Hank Aaron sat quietly in the shadows.

Not taking anything away from the other two, DiMaggio and Ruth, I would have to choose 'The Mick'...maybe you could call it personal.

Thanks for the question...

This is easy, B without a doubt. Maybe in about 50 years it might change when history has had a chance to decide on Jetter, A.ROd and Bonds.

Jeter, A-Rod, and Barry Bonds. Only because I really really really like Jeter. He totally rocks.

I would totally choose B. These are the people that made baseball such a big sport. They didn't care if they lost. They loved the game.

neither. Ortiz and Rameriz would have to be there as well as Shilling. Red Sox players ARE a dream team.
