Below is a link to circuit city's website. Is this a good deal, $549.99 for this laptop with no mail-in rebates? The only thng I am concerned about is that the processor only has 512k of L2 cache.

the dell inspirion b130 is $ 539
THE 2 MB L2 CACHE CLINCHES THE DEAL
(i mean the Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 & not the Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380
the celeron model has 1 mb cache & prices at $ 449)

the acer is sure more attractive looking

remember l2 cache is the most crital part in performace & also sortta most expensive
( the 512 mb l2 cache in the acer is aweful 2 say the least, dunno how u work on it ! )

dell 4 performance ; acer 4 looks
-- u decide !

How much can you absolutely at your maximum limit to afford to spend on a laptop, I happen to like this one, it's also an Acer but it's also twice the price, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115246

Look at that one above first. Now, the problems as I see it with the laptop you have chosen, it's a single core 64-bit processor, I would much prefer to have a dual core 32-bit processor (Core Duo), it also only has 512MB of DDR memory, it's not even DDR2 and you aren't going to find DDR2 memory on a Turion based laptop either. It also has integrated graphics which is something I avoid like the plague. I can only give you my point of view, this is not a laptop I would buy. But then I use my laptop like my desktop in many cases for video editing, game playing and other tasks that require a lot more power than the one you have chosen could provide. If all you are doing is surfing the web and using office applications then it should be sufficient. As I said, it might be good for you but it is not one I would purchase. I did however buy the one I listed.

best bang for your bucks. compare once with the offer from Walmart. you get a 15.4" screen instead of 14.1", a 80GB HD instead of a 40GB, and a AMD Turion instead of a Celeron M 380 (1MB L2 cache) for just 52 bucks more - good deal!

PS.
i wouldn't say the Dell Inspiron B130 is better. advantage is the larger ram of 1GB DDR2, the drawback is you get no DVD DL burner for that price - it's up to you.
PPS.
the graphics on both is the decent onboard GMA 900 or 950 (not suited for gaming).

Yes it's a good deal as most Acers are. Also do not listen to any posters that bash Acer or any other pc brand for that matter without giving any hard details and/or facts!

yes 512k of l2 cache is a tad on the small side, however for inder 600 it's not abad deal.
