is it tax ,industrial relations reform or we have become to complascent and lazy

I agree with the first answer which is sad because those smaller, local stores usually beat the bigger stores for service. Another thing is the amount of paperwork and compliance all businesses have to do (payroll, GST, BAS, superannuation, WorkCover etc.) but it is really hard on small businesses - they usually don't have the expertise themselves or the spare cash to pay for someone for that expertise. Then there's the hours they have to put in to run their business and then after hours work to comply with all the government and legal responsibilities! I feel for small business owners but it really up to the government to cut the "red tape" and start supporting them.

same problem as in the USA, people have stop shopping there and are going to the large retailers, thus killing small mom and pop stores!
