I read something about lying on your left side and but I cannot remeber what it is. I still haven't broke my water but I had 4 contractions over the night that were like a bad menstrual cramp. The doctor on call, which is not my regular doctor, said to wait it out until my water breaks. I am extremely uncomfortable and I have thrown up twice since 5:30 am. I also don't feel very hungry, at least not yesterday and today. I did eat but really felt nauseated.

my conttractions have been about 20 minutes apart up to 3 hours before another one. They last about 30 sec to a minute.

Laying on your left side has to do with your bloodflow. There is a major vein along the right side of your spinalcord, laying on your lift allows less pressure to this major vein supplying blood for your body, and the baby.
Back labor is when the baby is facing the wrong way. Easy solution, (when the baby wants to cooperate anyhow). On your hands and knees, to the pelvic tilt exercise. Also sometimes called the "cat-back arch".... This bumps the baby's head with your tail bone, won't hurt the baby, just makes them uncomfortable enough to turn around the right way! If on your hands and knees is too hard, on your side can work too, making the same rocking motion with your pelvis. Good luck!!!

This isn't back labor. Back labor is a type of contraction caused by the position of the babies head. I had back labor and it is TERRIBLE. What you are feeling sre probbably braxton hicks contractions. The fact that you only had 4 contractions means that you are probbably not in labor yet. When the contractions have come every 5-7 minutes, consistantly for awhile, then call your doc.
If you are have a couple 5 min apart, and then they stop for 20 min or more, you are not in true labor. My water didn't break until I was almost done, and they broke it for me. But just take a warm bath, sit on the toilet (which can releive pain as well) have someone rub your back, do squats holding the back of a sturdy chairor other furniture, and walk walk walk. All of these things can help either relieve pain, bring on labor, or both.
Most of all drink lots of water, juice or gateraid, and relax and try to sllep, you are going to need your energy weather it comes today, or a week from now.

If you are having back labor, hands and knees is a good position. Have your partner put counter pressure on your back as well. Get in the shower and point the water at the area of your back that hurts.
You only mentioned having 4 contractions. Are you having REGULAR, frequent contractions? If it is real labor then they will get more intense, closer together and longer as it goes along.
Drink some water and lay on your left side for a while and see if the contractions continue or go away. If you are dehydrated, that could be causing the contractions.
Peppermint might help you with the nausea.
Your water DOES NOT need to break for this to be real labor. (Mine NEVER breaks early in labor! With my 1st it was broke by the doctor very late in labor.....45 mins later I was pushing. With my second, my MW broke it for me while I was pushing. With my third, it broke on it's own while I was pushing.) DO NOT wait for your water to break if you are having frequent, regular contractions that are getting stronger and closer together.

He said to wait until your water breaks? Just take it easy. My water never broke and had to be broken at the hospital. Are your contractions getting close together? Oh, you still have a little while then. I never experienced back labor but my mom always said it was when contractions went through your back. Sorry I can't help more.

I had back labor with my first one. I felt absolutely no pain in my belly. I felt all contractions and pain in my lower back. It's because the baby is turned face up instead of face down, and his little head presses on your spine. Ow. I still have lasting back trouble 5 years later.

the back of baby's head is along the back of your pelvis. This is an odd shape because your baby is such a conehead (all babies are when they come out that way). Occipito Posterior (OP) position.
The better way is to have baby's head along the front of your pelvis. This is the usual way, and the way nature intended.
Take paracetamol (acetaminophen), and some water and try to rest. A warm pack may be helpful.
Ginger tea or maxolon (metoclopramide) can help the nausea
