Okay. I am an East Coast girl and I don't wear suits often. Maybe I don't sleep until noon but HELLO... it's 11am here which means if you're on the west coast it's 7am and YOU are up asking questions on Answers. You need to relax and sleep in a little.

And define "harder." This statement makes absolutely no sense. Are you daft?

I have also noticed that Easterners are more formal than Westerners, in America. But there are pockets in the East where people live about like they do in the West. Rural West Virginia is one of them. I raise goats and grow an orchard, for example.

I think the reason for the difference between East and West is population density. Even in the West there are some big cities. In those cities, you'll find people trying to compete with each other for promotions partly by wearing expensive formal clothes.

The relaxed lifestyle is more of a city-country thing, the West just happens to be more spread out, so it has more "country" than the East does.

The South and East are embedded with outmoded ideas passed down to them from their parents and the conventional wisdom which is considered "normal" there.
For example, did anyone ever wonder why cities in the Northeast are divided by ethnic groups and cultures ? where as in the West/Northwest people live side by side and not clustered into the subculture of ethnic amagalations.
The norm for people out west is that we "think" differently than those embedded into the rigid outmoded thinking structures .The thinking structure for people that live on the east coast and the south think like people that have lived over 100 years ago.
The people in those societies might as well live in "Bedrock" from the Flintstone cartoon. Even some of their humor and jokes aren't funny at all and most of them pick on different ethnic cultures.
To sum it up without making this too long is this:
People "live" in the south and east coast, people out west are "living " their lives without the constraints of ancient ideas that have no bearing on the 21st century such as those in the east and southern part of the United States.
People out in the east try to assemble themselves into groups where on the contrary people out west are "individuals" who are just simply living their lives and enjoying life without trying to "impress" anyone.

I can't speak for the north east but I live in Florida and we tend to wear as little clothing as possible without being arrested you don't see suits down here unless its a tourist or a business man at a conference and its people in the north and west that need to slow down a bit take life at a slower pace and you'll live longer.

I think you may be the victim of regional stereotyping. The South is really quite laid back compared to other places. You can believe what you want about rednecks and hillbillies and marrying our sisters but one thing is for sure, we prefer our slower pace of life not because we have to...

Your choice though... ignorance is in the hands... and the eyes of the ignorant.
