Keep in mind qwerty was developed at the same time as the typewriter and doesn't take into account what letters are most frequently used in the english language or damage from repetitive stress injuries. So in this time of wide spread computer use is it really a good idea for qwerty to be the standard for keyboards?

So you wouldn't give it a try for three months to improve not only your wpm and your accuracy but prevent long term damage to your joints when all computers even the ones you work on can easily be changed Dovorak or you can buy hardwired key boards? Is qwertys only value that it comes standard, that certainly doesn't make it better. So what is the oint of an eronomic key board that uses an un erganomical key lay out?

The primary issue is that most people have learned the process for working quickly on a qwerty keyboard. Thus a conversion to a Dvorak would result in a HUGE change management issue, and likely would result in significantly lost productivity as the new keyboard layout is learned.

The attached keyboard provides some information about the history of these two keyboards.

QWERTY is universal, DVORAK is not. Learn new keys at home but then at your office or your work you'd have to use QWERTY and it's not easy for us to learn two standards to switch between them. Also, we aren't likely to switch over to DVORAK any time soon, if ever. People will use QWERTY until voice recognition (or neural interfaces) get so good that we no longer need a keyboard for typing, playing games maybe but not typing. I'm not willing to give up some 60WPM to drop down to maybe 10 using DVORAK until I get used to it, no sir. The learning curve is too steep.
