Before college, I was always angry, and furious to people, who didnt care about others. But I had few friends. when I came to college I decided to be gentle to anyone (I mean ANYONE)..
Gained lots of friends, but lost my personality. ANd soon found out that people did not respect me... and at that moment I changed my life. Decided that a necklace with one perfect pearl is much more beautiful then a necklace with lots of corrupt pearls..
the ones who think I am a jerk can get the hell out...
ones who know why I cant bear people not caring others toughts, are always wellcome...

1. Make up your mind to be happy.
Learn to find pleasure in simple things.
2. Make the best of your circumstances.
No one has everything, and everyone has something
of sorrow intermingled with gladness of life. The trick is
to make the laughter outweigh the tears.
3. Don't take yourself too seriously.
Don't think that somehow you should be protected
from misfortune that befalls other people.
4. You can't please everybody. Don't let criticism worry you.
5. Don't let your neighbor set your standards. Be yourself.
6. Do the things you enjoy doing but stay out of debt.
7. Never borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder
to bear than real ones.
8. Since hate poisons the soul, do not cherish jealousy,
Avoid people who make you unhappy.
9. Have many interests. If you can't travel, read about new places.
10. Don't hold postmortems. Don't spend your time brooding
over sorrows or mistakes. Don't be one who never gets over things.
11. Do what you can for those less fortunate than yourself.
12. Keep busy at something. A busy person never has time
to be unhappy.
And I could add Number 13:
To know lasting happiness, get to know Jesus.

First was verbal and then sexual abuse in childhood;
Then was finding my life's calling while meandering my way through college;
Then was the birth of my son;
Then was the death of his father;
Then there was 9/11/2001 which was soon followed by the loss of my job and nearly two years of unemployment.
All of these events have molded me into who I am -- for better or worse. And my experiences have taught me to recognize what is really important and precious in life, and to re-prioritize as a result.

My trauma. I am a Trauma Survivor of a very violent crime, in which I lost my only son. And I was left in the fire to burn. That was 21 years ago. Sounds like I may have lived in a bad neighborhood. But I didn't. I was upscale middle class.

I would agree. Definitely, that had a social impact on my life, really. At least you pointed out that realization, it's absolutely true.

My my.
I think you meant was, when you are confident in yourself, others feel confident in you.
Or this way - People don't care that you know until they know that you care.
My experience says if someone picks up that you don't care what they think about you, they care about you less.

I was a child when I was severely abused by muslims. And they still continue.
It has changed my life forever.
