If you are talking about a couple of weeks ago they did NOT reveal his true identity. The revealed the name of a suspect that a contemporary police officer thought was the Ripper, because his notes were donated to Scotland Yard.
These notes were found over 25 years ago and have been the subject of much research and at least 2 books.
There is no 100% convincing suspect in the crime to this day.
However the "Royal Doctor" theory have been debunked repeatedly and thoroughly

jack the ripper murdered prostitutes in whitechapel in the late 1800's. Amongst his victims were Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly
His MO was to remove the kidneys and sexual organs, but in the case of Mary Kelly he skinned her and mutilated the body beyond recoqnition.
The Detective in charge of the investigation was Frederick Abberline. The Ripper was given his name by a London newspaper after he sent a kidney thru the post. Various people have been touted as the ripper namely Prince Edward Albert Queen Victorias son, Dr Gull her personal doctor, the american Dr Tumbelty and the polish jew known as leather apron - however without DNA and modern science its doubtful that the killer will ever be unmasked

I don't think the actual specific person was very important, just that he was a member of the Freemasons working for the Royal family to kill all of the prostitutes that a certain prince (can't remember who) could have slept with to stop the child becoming heir to the throne.

His/her real identity was never confirmed, 1880s terrorist of the streets in London, wasn't really in "business" that long. Perhaps retired quietly.

I dont think they revealed who he actually was, but they revealed the most likely suspects, one of them was a doctor to the royal family, and the other was a jewish butcher, but i could be wrong!!
