Wow, you have just asked the $64,000 question. People have been struggling with this question for years. I believe the answer has too many variables to really quantify.

1. What are your likes??? Dislikes??
2. What are your skills?
3. What are your hobbies?
4. How do you learn and understand different ideas?
5. When you look into the future what do you see 5 years from now? 10 years? 20 years?
6. What are your strengths? Weaknesses?

These are but a few of the questions you should begin to ask yourself. Believe me, having an idea of the direction you wish to go in college makes a huge difference. When I went to college I had no idea what I wanted to do. I CLEP'ed out of 30 hours and should have finished school in 2.5-3 years. However I took courses in 12 different majors before finally settling down on one area. Thus, it took me nearly five years to finish. When you find your area concentrate on your tasks in that area and follow-through it will save you time and money.

I would agree that you should never underestimate your worth. Too many people do that today. They believe they cannot do something when they have never tried. Do not ever think you can over expect from yourself. Keep your goals high and do what is necessary to meet them.

Overall, in your life, always remember that everyone is a person with their own life, problems, joys, sorrows, and everything else that goes with life. Treat people with dignity and respect and they will, by and large, give that back to you.

Lastly, one thing to always remember is that you are always your worst critic. Celebrate your achievements and mourn your failures, but don't let either dictate who you are. You are the sum of your knowledge and experience and only you can be you.

I hope this little bit has helped or, at least, given you something to think about. Good luck to you in the next few years. They will be good ones.

A professor I knew understood he was considered cruel by many students because he was a very harsh grader. He explained to me he was doing a great service for his students by letting them know what they are not good at and discouraging them from continuing on down a futile path.

The world is full of flattery. This prof is right. Ever watch Simon Cowell on "The Next American Idol?" Although his shortcoming is savoring cruelty, he is correct in his opinions, most of the time. Afterall, that is his business. He should be an expert in it.

Having said all this, you must pick out those things that you enjoy doing, and do them to the best of your ability. Do you look around and say to yourself, "my work is as good as anybody elses work!"

Then ask yourself how you would market this thing you do well.

All sounds quite obvious, but tell that to the fools who audition to become "The Next American I'm DULL!"

Good luck!

"Prick your finger, it is done, the moon has now eclipsed the sun, the angel has spread its' wings, the time has come for bigger things." Brian Warner.
Go with your heart. Never underestimate the potential that lies inside you. Do not set goals that you deem to be unattainable, for then you will experience failure; But failure is the biggest teacher of all. How much do you want to learn from this life? Search your heart. And know that you needn't analyse your self-worth because you don't know what you want to go to college for! You will find your true destiny once you strike out to find it. Blessed Be.

it's not about the OVER EXPECT or the UNDER ESTIMATE - you should just set a goal...

have a dream

set a goal

break it down

work it step by step

If a guy in a wheelchair can climb mount everest or a girl with cerebral palsy can win a Cannes Film Festival award, is there ANYTHING that might stop you from achieving what you want to achieve?

Best thing to do is go into a career that you enjoy - I'm gonna go into Journalism and also make sure that the option you have taken pays good wages....

I mean, there is no point of spending your life doing something you don't enjoy, even if it pays good money....

You know what you are good at, what you enjoy doing, and maybe a hint as to what direction you want to go with your life. That's it, that's all you need. Head the way you want to go, and realize that maybe you'll change your mind, and that's okay. Nobody says that you have to do one thing from high school until you die. Be happy, and good luck.

the key to the over-expecting and the under-estimating is being content with who you are. if you aim high and don't make it that's actually fine. but if aiming high and failing will crush you, then you shouldn't aim so high.

that's the point they're trying to make.

as long as you're happy with what you're doing, you'll be fine. somewhere between Dictator of the Universe and Janitor should be fine.

Shoot for the gold and be happy with the silver. Good grief - why make it so complicated? beleive in yourself and you can achieve your potential. Second guess yourself and you may miss a chance of a lifetime. Just do it and have fun beleiving in yourself!

Yes, be yourself. Live your life.

As I can say, I always have a thought in my mind: "I am best". So silly of me. Over-confidence is a killer. But as far I never failed to achieve any goal. Why? Confidence.
