Claude sounds right for the cat!

It's not Tom & Jerry!

I don't think it was Claude Cat; but the owners did bring home a little puppy (Frisky Puppy) that scared the crap out of him in the film, "Terrier Stricken," 1950. But I remember watching episodes, not a full length. On a side note though Claude Cat in later years does live with a large bull dog, Marc Antony, that "adopts" a little black kitty, Pussyfoot, and does everything to protect the little kitty from Claude. You must remember this: at the end of the episodes Marc Antony puts the kitty on his back for a nap and the kitty scratches his way to be comfortable. When the kitty finally settles, Marc Antony pulls up some skin to tuck the kitty in. I'm still not convinced that Claude Cat is the cat in question, but this is all I could find.....

sounds like an old loony toons cartoon. the husband brought home the little dog for his wife and their cat was jealous. the couple went out and the cat kept trying to get rid of the dog or get it in trouble. i think the cat's name was Claude (sp?). i hope this helps.
