i have tried downloading settings from their site but the error messages persists

First thing's first mate.You need to create gps and then you will be able to set you'r internet up.You will also need to set up o2 server to access internet but it's not free.Cost'a as much as a low rate call.

I work for O2 you need to call them up and they will provide you with the correct settings if the text isnt working they can send the settings via email then just follow step by step instructions in the email.

They may be able to help on the O2 website.I needed settings for 1 of my phones and got them there.Just read the last bit of your question.have you tried putting them in manually or is that how you did it.
