Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes are found throughout the lower peninsula. Their venom is the least toxic of any rattlesnake found in the United States.

There is a rattlesnake known as the Massasauga Rattlesnake. They live primarily in the swampy low lying areas. To say they will not go into a camp site may not be true. They could go where ever they want to but will probably stay away from people as much as they can. You can search about this snake on yahoo for more information. I have never heard of anyone being bit by a Massasauga Rattler in Michigan.

E. Massasauga Rattlesnake has been seen in Michigan. It is the only poisonous snake they have and we have them here in Indiana also. Depending on where your campsite is located is whether or not you will see one. I go camping in the woods in Arkansas every year. I have only seen One rattlesnake. most snakes will avoid you. Go and have a good time just don't pick up any snakes there unless you know what you are picking up. If you see a snake and it coils up and hisses, just do not move.
