The ACLU is clearly abusing the responsibility that comes with the freedom we enjoy. I believe when the Founding Fathers framed our government - it was done with the assumption that Americans would act with integrity and value what they (the Founding Fathers) had given us in terms of God-honoring philosophy in government.
As time as gone by - we as a nation have taken these responsibilities and freedoms (rights) for granted, think they are ours to manipulate and have become desensitized to the harm being done - especially over the past 50 years.
The ACLU is a grievous product of that.
They appear to operate with blind aggression - blind to the integrity and actual principles the United States was founded on. The paiful irony is that the very freedom they enjoy allows for it - because it respects diversity and God-given choice.
Much is lost when we denegrate our system and care of it.
They are on the wrong side of issues because they seek themselves and oppose God - the principles of whom this country was founded on. While I cherish the wisdom and gift of the rights we have, it is deeply disconcerting to see the activities of groups like this - based on contrary agendas and done even with malice and aggression.
Thanks for a good question.

They took the case so as to get judicial clarification about the limits of free speech.
The ACLU does indeed defend fundamental rights, regardless of the nature of the speech or the group that feels their speech is wrongly infringed.
In taking on the case, the ACLU does not endorse the views of those it is representing. It has defended/represented gays and military people as well.
My personal view is that these "Christians" are way out of line in their actions. They are intruding upon the grief of friends and families obnoxiously and dishonoring the fallen soldiers.
Moreover, they are twisting the facts: demonstrating against a government policy is not religion, it is political speech like any other. The ACLU is wrong to sue on religious grounds.
Theocrats like these specialize in conflating religion with politics. They are a disruptive, obnoxious, scheming pain in the butt.
P.S. Christians, kindly note that the ACLU is HELPING this "church."

The ACLU are one of the few organizations who defend ALL of America's laws, rather than just the ones their members deem convenient. As such, they should receive much wider support than they do from "real" Americans. (I am a member, even though I am an immigrant alien.)
The Constitution embodies your right to peacefully express your opinion, whether you wish to extol the virtues of Jesus, Zeus or Hitler! That freedom is what our troops fight for (whether they know it or not), and what our courts are bound (by the Constitution) to uphold.
Believing in real freedom sometimes means you have to defend idiots, but that does not diminish the responsibility of those who truly appreciate "real freedom" from protecting the legal rights of those idiots!
The ACLU thought black people should get the same education as white people. Do you have a problem with that?

The ACLU thought that a black man and a white woman who wanted to get married should be allowed to. You havew a problem with that?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loving_vs._Virginia
The ACLU think the government shouldn't be listening to your telephone calls without a legal warrant. Is that a problem?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSA_warrantless_surveillance_controversy
The ACLU think classroom should teach science in science class, not theology. You have a problem with that?
Because they routinely take the side of the Constitution rather than a particular constituency, the ACLU also support the right of Nazis to demonstrate (peacefully), women to choose what happens to their own bodies, and many other "contraversial" issues, but if you are a real American, you will understand why and support them.
If you don't support them, then you don't really support the fundemental ideals that make America better than every other country, and you should probably move to Europe.

ACLU is honestly a mode of agencies that lives by using the rule of thumb "be careful what you want for, you purely might want to get it" The police, political administrations, etc are continually occurring about the way it might want to be a lot less confusing to have this or that ability to do their pastime. the issue is that if given a number of those understanding they could earnings the right to ruin in reality all American values. ACLU protects antagonistic to wishful questioning rules and subject matters that take position even as human beings do not end to consider the outcome of passing that regulation. The ACLU is a civil rights corporation who best pastime is to keep the rights and liberties of human beings intact. it is the large volume of agencies like the ACLU that visual demonstrate unit our authorities that keeps our authorities and society honest. those who ***** about the ACLU might want to a lot quite have a dictatorship on the Hollywood made theory that the international might want to be a more effective position or some similar nonsense.

Freedom of speech comes first with the ACLU. The article states they took the case because it was a freedom of speech issue.
They are not anti-gay. Their home page has a link to Lesbian & Gay Issues.

Depends on what you view as the wrong side. Yes, I believe that the ACLU is indeed helping America. I'm glad someone is doing the work that others avoid.

The ACLU is neither right or left. They are non-partisan and defend anybodies civil rights. They have defended Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh. We should be happy that a group is watching out for ALL AMERICANS!!

I guess you are against freedom of speech?Understand freedom of speech is not for speech that is popular you can speak what everyione agrees with anywhere freedom of speech is the freedom to say what isnt popular..It is saying I don't agree with what you are saying but I will die for your right ot say it as many a brave American ha died fro these things that you now wish to do away with. The ACLU does not take cases because they are popular they take cases to defend you cilil liberties that i guess you no longer feel are valuable it is too sad that many people agree with you.

I don't know. But they are the only group that I can honestly say I have never agreed with a position they have taken that I can think of.
My question, is if they are on the wrong side of every issue, where do they get their funding? They couldn't have that much support for extreme stupidity.
