I've been camping in the north woods of Wisconsin and Michigan for nearly 30 years now. I would not recommend dry ice. You can't touch it without getting "burned" by it. Regular ice does fine. Buy a big bag of it, and keep it in a cooler. It'll last a couple of days. I like the state and national forest campgrounds best of all. They are rustic, and really give you that back to nature feeling. Sure the bathrooms can be rather unpleasant, but you won't be spending much time in them. Enjoy, and savor any wildlife you see. And don't forget your camera. Just a couple of weeks ago, we went camping up near Iron Mountain, and saw a black bear, and loons.

Just take regular ice if you're camping out of the back of your truck, if you want something that needs to stay cool.

Don't open the cooler much - only when you need to.

As for animals in michigan, it's the standard fare as everywhere else in the MI/IN/OH area: a mininum number of bears, some rattlesnakes (not a lot), some skunks, a few copperheads, basic insects, and maybe a few field mice.

EDIT: As for the bathrooms, they vary. Some are nice modern facilities, some are holes with walls around them, and some you have to dig yourself. Take your own toilet paper, keep it in a ziploc bag.
