Not so much, because I rarely take first impressions as a true depiction of someone. They could be having a particularly bad day, or a particularly good one, and there's very little point in making a judgement on someone on first impressions - you'll miss shedloads of cool and interesting people if you do.
Case in point - I once got a job by confounding the employer's first impressions of me.
First impression was that I was more than an hour late for the interview, a bit scruffy, breathless, and a bit sweaty.
Got the job ultimately, because they said that even with all that against me, I carried on as if nothing had happened, and it proved I was unflappable :oD

I find that my first impressions are normally better then when I sit down and really analyze a persons traits.
When you meet some one for the first time your sub conscious is going crazy checking out every little thing they do. You may not consciously know why you take an instant like or dislike to a particular person, but the hidden part of your brain does, and its been honing those skills through thousands of generations.
When people get a first impression wrong it's either because of negative social circumstances, or a faulty part of the brain.
Its so good at its job this function is often mixed up with "psychic" intuition.

Yes, for your question, someone simply may be having a bad day or just didn't feel like dressing up or something. It depends on the situation. An interview? No, first appearances mean a lot.

Not often. Looks can be very deceiving. That's why it is important to get to know a person before you let them into your life.

Men in general are visually stimulated! We can;t help that any more than you women have to feel that emotional connection!
I have been fooled many times by my first perception. I am old now, and don't fall for the physical appearance as much, but when I was young! Wow! I fell in lust with women!
Where do I stop this?

First appearances only count for so much. There is always more to everyone than can be gleaned from a first appearance so the answer for everyone has to be yes.

with plastic surgery, enhancements, and so much make-up it takes a putty knife to remove, yes, first appearances are often deceiving. Why can't people just be themselves?

No. Very seldom. It is called intuition and there is a reason that we are genetically made that way. It is for our own protection and the protection of our offspring. When something is unfamiliar, we are on guard.
Animals do it and so do we.
Trying to resist that is like trying to resist scratching an itch.

No, my first impression of people is almost always on target, and the only time I was steered wrong was when I didn't listen to my first instinct about a person.
