USB stands for Universal Serial Bus invented by Intel back in 1996 where USB 1.0 was released and shortly after a revision 1.1 was released. Today's modern USB is 2.0 and is faster than the previous generation.
USB is an external peripheral bus standard designed to bring Plug and Play capabilities for attaching peripherals externally to the PC without the need of any special ports.
