I am not for abortion, I have a almost 32 year old son to prove that! But tis crap about stem cells confuses me. I know the research shows that stem cells could help many people, When is life life? I just don't get it!

I'm not an expert, but let me try to explain why I am all for it.
Stem cells are those cells that were fertilized in fertility clinics, but never used, for whatever reason. This means that even though in principle they are the beginning of a life cycle, they would never become a human being.
These stem cells are the basic building blocks of the human body, that are not yet specialized to become, say a kidney or a hand. Being as yet unspecialized, science can use these cells to grow them into certain types of cell that are needed to cure many of the horrendous diseases that have no cure at this moment. It is not certain that this process will indeed produce a cure for those diseases, but the chance is there that they will. To prohibit the use of stem cells in scientific research toward medical use, means that a very promising road to eradicating many of the plagues that people suffer of is closed.
The argument is that these stem cells are life and that to destroy life would be murder. Let me leave you with two thoughts concerning this stance:
1. If the cells are not used, they will be destroyed. By using them they may help make life better for a lot of people. Can there be a worthier cause?
2. For discussion's sake, let's pretend that the stem cell would be able to think and take decisions. Given the choice of being of enormous utility to humanity and being destroyed, what do you think the decision would be?

It's a debate that is really touchy, but I think there are some points people don't necessarily see, a stem cell is literally a blank cell. It contains the DNA to make a person, but it simply doesn't have a function. And also, when an embryo is destroyed for stem cells, the embryo is really clone of the patient, rather than a new child that was about to be brought into the world. Is killing your clone so can live murder?

The problem has been manifested by the fact that left over frozen embryos not needed for stem cell research have grown into sons and daughters that go to school. They were the lucky ones who for whatever reason were considered unacceptable for not needed. Normally these children would have been sacrificed for stem cell research. Trust me, I can't stand Bush, but when he vetoed stem cell research using embryos, I had to give him credit. That is a great thing he has done.

Stem cells can be any organ or tissue in the body. As far as when is life life, that's another question in itself. But a better question is,"without stem cell research, where do all the aborted fetuses go?"

Not all stem cells are created by embryos. There are also adult stem cells, although they are not nearly as useful as embryonic, are still useful somewhat. And recently, mouse testes have been used to create stem cells that are equally as useful as embryonic stem cells.
Embryonic stem cells are created from embryos that are about a week old. Additionally, these embryos have been donated, and were artificially created in a lab. They would not be developing no matter what.

Although stem cell research could be a great thing, given the nature of people of people and their desire to play God...the question is where would it stop, and how long before theyre actually cloning people??
I am in no way a Bush supporter, but I havt to agree with his veto here.

I believe that it is embryonic stem cell research that is so controversial because it kills the embryo. There are much better sources for obtaining stem cells that don't interfere with human life.

Sorry you are confused. See, its really quite simple. Its perfectly OK to drop bombs and kill people, but its not OK to use the stem cells of dead fetuses to help solve numerous diseases. Get it now?

to me, life begins at conception. when the sperm gets to the egg and the cells start to divide. to me, thats when a human starts its creation and thats the beginning of life. im not for it but then again, it has so many positives and it does its negatives, sometimes im really confused how to feel about it.
