I think women and men are helpful in different ways. Generally speaking, women are both more sympathetic and empathetic, as well as being better listeners. Because we take the time to fully understand a problem and can often see it from different points of view, we are very good at solving long term complex problems. Men, on the other hand, tend to be more action oriented. If you tell a man you have a problem, his first instinct is to try to fix it. This is not necessarily a bad thing. In emergencies and crisis situations, when immediate action is called for, men tend to excel. Of course, these are generalizations. I know both women who are very action oriented problem solvers as well as men who are very empathetic listeners. But the fact is, men and women are different, and this is an example of that.

I think women are more helpful to MEN (not to women). I think a little bit of sex angle does play a role (in a subtle way). You have to be decent looking, well spoken and not smelly.

Other way round, we men are more helpful to women (I am talking of genuine help and not trying to impress the female).

Most of the women I know are useless, rather than helpful.
But here on Yahoo, more ladies seem to be open to giving advice.

Studies have shown that Women are more helpfull for long-term increments. They have also shown that Men are more helpful than women when it comes to risk-involved, physical tasks.

So, there are different types of 'helpfull' for different circumstances.

No, when my friends have a problem i don't really give them real advice I just like to hear my self speak. My guy friends are way more helpful when i have an issue. girls just try to console in stead of helping.
