A mission statement can be "what does the company do". But, really it's not that concrete. Here is 3Ms mission statement:
"To solve unsolved problems innovatively"
So, it doesn't say they make tape or post its. It gives a very broad mission. This could be small consumer type stuff or building a new rocket. So, 3M is saying we will do ANYTHING in any field. Pretty powerful.

A vision statement is where does the company want to be in the future? One of 3Ms vision statement is to "Acheive breakthrough performance for our customers".

So, put the two together and you get that 3M is to invent new stuff that helps it's customers. Wow, that was powerful! It's all very confusing at first and really doesn't make a lot of sense to most people. For most it tells you nothing, but for a few it tells you everything! Good luck.
