I work under women and I have been trying to get this day off for awhile. What should I do. I even tried to switch for an earlier shift. Please help. I need a good excuse.

Tell her you have a funeral to go to for a relative, but not someone too close. If you pick a parent or sibling, you could end up with flowers sent to the house or something. Also, it makes it easier for your boss to follow up that way.
An aunt is a good way to go because typically when they got married their name changed. Makes it much tougher to follow up on.
Just to cover your tracks, check the obitiuaries in your local paper to find someone who remotely fits the description and will be having services the day you need off. This will provide details such as a funeral home in case they are needed. Do not offer these details, just have them on hand in case you are questioned.

Oh, this is humanity at some of it's worst, but, here goes... play sick, "flu-ish" and go to an Urgent Care the night before, they give you a Dr.'s notice for up to 2 days. Good luck.

If you have kids, one of them could be sick. Or the car won't start. Then there is always the "I have the flu and I'm throwing up" one too!!

Sometimes a funeral works....
and sometimes saying you have "the runs" also works too...my brother is infamous for that one.
