Not someone you know but yourself we are talking here. What was the worst part of being in jail other than losing your liberty? What was the best part of being in jail other than the free bed, board and treatments (for those who manage to jump NHS queues whilst in jail or free treatments for those who would otherwise have had to pay for it)?

mayhem: the bits in brackets were added so those would not come up as top choice to answer the question. And apart from that i can't see where you get the idea from i don't like inmates???
It's not about liking or not liking. I knew a woman once that got 18 months for hitting her violent boyfriend on the head with a frying pan. Or the old lady in the news once that got sent down for feeding the pidgeons. You know what they say?
IT'S NOT NECESSARILY THE CRIMINALS THAT ARE IN JAIL ... JUST THE ONES THAT GOT CAUGHT!
On that thought, have a nice day :-)

Spent 4 months inside and it was long enough for me. The worse thing was having no control of your life - told when to get up, when to eat, what to do and not having any privacy be that in getting searched, your cell being searched, letters read and all that. Always afraid that somebody would kick off and you might be attacked although nothing serious happened to me. And have to mention having to piss in a pot and having the smell of that in your cell overnight.

Best things - can't really think of anything I suppose though it would be having the time to think about what you did, why you were there and how much you didn't want to come back.

What you say about free board and bed is rubbish - you don't actually ask to be there so they could keep the free bed and board if they wanted to.

And don't mention about the hospital stuff. I had to go to A&E once and sat just like everybody else waiting to be seen. Only difference was that I was there handcuffed and chained to a prison officer with everybody looking at me like I was some sort of murderer or something. Couldn't wait to get back to the prison after that. Don't believe what you hear about it being an easy life - it's not.

I take it by your coments you are not fond of inmates. To answer your question though the guard are the worst thing about being incarcerated. The food is also bad, and all the other inmates either want to kill you or steal what little bit you still own. It is a jungle that I will NEVER return to. I promise you I was rehabilitated. I am now a married man with 2 children and I left all that behind me 9 years ago. The prison system is flawed and I believe they treat inmates unfairly. I was not a drug dealer or a violent offender but I was treated like I wasn't even a human.
