The Russian nesting dolls are known as Babushka dolls or Matryushka dolls. The root of the name Matryushka is in Matriarch or mother and they symbolise the mother and family.

it originated in 1564 in Russia to symbolise the boom in russian births. they're inside each other because it's like giving birth.
