Easier to make quickly.
What makes the world go round?

OMAR MARTINEZ
REPORTER

For as far back as anyone can remember, plates have been in a circular shape, and, of course, that makes it easier to eat food and makes eating less messy. Some questions arise however. For example, who invented the first plate and why? Why did that person decide to make them round rather than square, diagonal or octagonal?

Lucas Wagner (10) said, “It’s easier to organize food on a round plate and that’s why they are circular.” That can be true, but it also depends on the size of the plate. On the same subject Andrew Smith (12) said he thinks plates are round because “It’s just the way they were designed.”

Today’s plates are starting to appear in many shapes and sizes. Square plates have made a “comeback” but still aren’t used as much by most families.

“It’d be easier if plates were mainly square because they’d fit in cabinets easier,” said Jacob Clark (10). Wagner has a different idea. “It wouldn’t make life easier. It would just make eating more fun,” he said.

The responders so far have more orless adequately given the logic behind having the plates round. I feel that the geometrical idea of perfect shape(Circle) may have contributed to this.Besides the obviously geometrical reason(equidisant from centre) must have been the deciding factor, the round shape of the stars and planets had perhaps generated a notion that since this shape was adopted in Creation it had a halo of mysticism about it..In Black Magic also the possessed one is protected from the Evil by drawing a circle around him/her..

My instincts tell me that hundreds of years ago plates were round because they were easily to make and the idea stuck out of tradition but honestly, I really don't know for sure.
