Echo was punished by Juno, so that she could not speak first to anyone, but only reply. Echo was rejected by Narcissus, who rejected too many women, so he was punished by a goddess to fall in love with his own reflection.
They both pined away - The only remnant of Echo is her reply to people in mountains and caves, and Narcissus' body disappeared, but a flower grew where it had been laying.

(There is another version that says it was Pan who took Echo's voice.)

Well actually in Roman mythology it's the same story line just the gods are named differently.

Echo was a nymph who loved to talk, she was a favorite of Diana, anyway Juno was trying to find her husband who was basically messing around with the nymphs and Echo distracted her. Juno got pissed and cursed Echo who now could only reply when spoken to. Who fell in love with Narcissus who was vain S.O.B, when he turned Echo down she left into a cave and basically disappeared except her voice.

Now Narcissus was cursed by a goddess who heard a maiden's prayer for revenge. Narcissus was hunting and found a clear fountain he sipped water and saw his reflection and fell in love with it, He ignored food, water all because of this reflection and basically died. And instead of a body a flower replaced it with purple within, white surrounding it. and that is basically the story.

Do you mean "Narcissus"? He was a young man who rejected the advances of the nymph Echo and was punished for it by being cursed. The curse made him fall in love with his own reflection. Unable to make love to himself like he wanted too, he died and turned into a flower which is now known as the Narcissus flower.

Narcissus was the young man who was so enthralled in himself that he didn't see or know about the nymph's echo's love for him. The important part of the story is that one day he was walking and he saw a placid river. He saw his reflection in the water, and couldn't stop staring. He fell in love with himself, and Echo tried in vain to get his atention but he would never look away from his reflection. In the end he became a stone statute, and she was doomed to echo the words of others, never speaking for herslef.

Narcissus loved himself so much, he spent all his time staring at his reflection in the water. Some goddess or other (I think it was Athena) became annoyed by that, and turned him into a flower.

Narcissus, the root word of narcissism, the idea of self love.
Narcissus was noted for viewing his beauty in a clear pool of water.

I know some. It is said that a Nymph fell in love with him and her name was Echo, but she echoed everyone from a spell that another goddess bestowed on her. Narcis didn't love her though. Anyway, one day he saw his reflection and fell in love with himself.
