I think they ought to believe you .
But the important thing is that you are truly sorry ! it is to be faithful with your self , and the Truth would be clear some day .

When I moved to North Carolina a guy dumped my best friend and I didn't know when she told me I said I was sorry but she didn't believe me for over 2 weeks. So don't give up keep apologizing, they'll have to forgive you sooner or latter.

If others do not believe you, you can not claim that you are truly sorry. That is truth which is accepted by everyone, including the Satan, if it exists at all. Only difference is that he will accept it with fear.
