My best friends birthday is tomorrow and I'm short on cash. Anybody got a good idea that says you're a great person without spending a lot of money? If it helps she is turning 31 and has 2 kids.

Make her a coupon book, good for free babysitting for a night out, for an avid shopping companion on a Saturday morning (you drive), for a dinner and bottle of wine chosen when she's ready for it, for help with household chores during a busy week, for an ear to listen to her problems whenever she feels the need, for a shoulder to cry on should she ever need one, etc., etc., etc.!

Be creative, use different colored construction paper, gluing stickers, whatever to the front and pages, stapling the end so they can be "torn off". Put this in a pretty envelope you've also decorated to match. I'm sure she'll appreciate not only the sentimentality of it, but the contents and coupons themselves!

You didn't mention how much money you are willing to spend on your best friend's birthday gift. Gift certificates, gas cards, a nice bottle of wine, tickets to a movie and/or dinner are all nice gifts.

Or if you are feeling a bit creative, make your own gift! Use photographs, a poem, favourite sayings, etc.

First off, if she has two kids, I'm sure she understands being short on cash.. the best idea is the one everyone else has offered... babysit for her, I bet she rarely gets to get away from the curtain climbers, even for a few minutes!!

I dont know how much cash your dealing with, but at that age, it really isnt about the gift, its the thought. Maybe a set of earrings, Kmart has excellent prices on real gold and silver, under $10.00, and then take her to dinner, just you and her and have fun or take her and get her nails done??? Something that says This is for YOU!!!

A girls day out... You can do it at your home, not hers, for a change of atmosphere... You can give her a home-spa treatment... Wander around and go around window shopping in the afternoon... DVD night and a pig-out session...

It's about quality time spent with you since you are each other's best friend... Take her mind off her family duties even for a day...She'll be glad and treasure that day forever..

Why don't you get her a babysitter and spend some quality time with her out on the town?
