Well, I am genuinely who I appear to be. Couldn't be bothered pretending to be someone else. Though I sometimes answer the questions with a joke or a smart retort - that's me, warts and all!!

Unfortunately most of the "non genuine" answers and ranting and name calling and ridiculous questions come from the youngsters. They are trying to get laughs or act smart, etc. It frightens me more to think about what the world will be once the youngsters DO grow up and take over. With the youngsters that we have in our communities here, and the other youngsters I've seen lately.....we are in trouble!
There is a total lack of regard for elders, respect, authority, perseverance, dedication, hard work and dignity. I hate to say it but it's true! Even my generation, I'm 25, is full of slackers.
Kids these days are lethargic, they don't listen, they aren't willing to work or help. And half the kids are barely getting through school!!!
Ok anyways now i'm ranting!! LOL so I guess i'll go on my marry way now.
PS> I don't hold that opinion of all kids, and I'm not a kid hater. I love kids and can't wait to have some of my own. I just think that we as a society need to do a better job of instilling value and ethics in to your youngsters. After all they will be the ones taking care of us!!

I think I use this site in the way you do. Obviously I hold certain opinions and views about religion and politics - but I find that through answering 'bigger' questions like these I learn a lot in the process. It is a bit of an 'intellectual work-out' sometimes.
Having said that I don't like to see people being offensive or trying to tell people how to live their lives - especially when very often the advice is just so bad!

I'm the real me in here but there's a lot of me, I jump around inside my mind. I hope I haven't upset anyone, if I have I don't hear about it. I like a laugh or two and I've found that many other users do as well. The grain of salt thing works for me on the other side of this as well. I've posted questions that have yielded responses with the word moron or worse but what can you do? I feel it says a lot more about the person who chooses to respond in this way, they must be in a lot of pain to lash out at someone they don't know. As such I just don't let it bother me, heck I feel bad for them missing out on the fun! The good answers and questions outweigh the bad by far from my point of view. The younger participates seem on the whole very clever and confident in their Q&A, the exceptions just stand out more because of this. Like finding a little stain on a favorite shirt, it will wash out! That's my spin on this one, I hope your day goes well.

I have no hidden agenda, just passing the time away while wating for a meeting etc, The answers allow for some to vent their frustration and anger, which I suppose is less harmful than many other ways. It is sad to see the ignorance of many who simply want to attack others. Free speech is a necessity and it is up to us to learnd to accept that no two are the same. Youngsters have a huge ability to adapt, it is their world we are living in and its up to them to set the pace, as we did when we were youngsters.

I'm a genuine person (well fishybear anyway), check out my q & a and my 360, I don't like nastiness, or swearing, there's no need for it, if something really upsets me and I do feel like swearing I tend to sensor my self by saying 'beeping' 'bbbbeeeeeeeep' or something like that. It's good to know there are more genuine people on this site, all of my 360 friends seem to be genuine too. Thank you for giving us all the opportunity to respond to such a lovely question.

it depends on ones idea of what they think is genuine. u think its having fun and making friends.some do it because they have time on their hands.some do it because their idea of fun is different and they like to discourage people who are upset and insult people. but i don't agree with what you say about conflicting views.if a person just wants people to agree with what they are saying then why are they asking the millions of users of yahoo answers for their opinions.of course i have already said that if people are doing it because they enjoy upsetting people and if somebody insults somebody then they can report them.and there are a lot of people like that on this site.it must be upsetting to a person who is in trouble and wants answers and help and when they open their question to see whether they got any answers and they see insults and people telling them to get a life or stop crying.people shouldn't just answer such questions please.but there are a lot of what you call genuine people and they make up for the not so genuine ones.

Dear Billy,
I think what you see is what you get.
I can pretty much discern who is genuine and who is an angry-twisted viper.
Also, one word answers usually gives a point-centered participant away.
Some people can be confrontational disguised
behind a pc or mac when in person they are not.
There's enough genuine people here to hold the fort!
Bring on the angry hords!
Have a nice day!

I agree with you! I think it is a general additude of uncaring amongst society that gets people stupid answers. It's a shame too, because what an interesting tool this could be to reach others. Isn't it funny? we live in the information age with all theese methods of communtication at our finger tips yet we are more out of touch with one another than ever before.
