15/40 because when you cancel(divide) 15 and 40 by common factor 5, u get 3/8.

0.07 kl=0.07 x 1000= 70 liter.

400ml= 400/1000 liter = 0.4 liter

8.7 g= 8.7/1000 kg = 0.0087 kg

Ok, time to factor the numerator (the top number) and the denominator (bottom number). Let's start with the first one given, 15/40. (You know about prime factors, don't ya? 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19 ... Write yourself a list of these and keep 'em handy.)

Hmm, 15, not divisible by 2, so how about 3? Yup, and then dividing by that prime factor: 15 / 3 = 5. So the numerator factors to: 3x5

Now try 40. 40 is an even number, so we know that 2 is a factor. Divide by 2 and you are at 20, another even number. (2x2 so far.) That leaves 10, or 2x5. So the denominator factors to 2x2x2x5.

So here's another way to write it: 15/40 = (3x5) / (2x2x2x5)

Cancel out the 5's top and bottom and you have (3) / (2x2x2) , or 3/8!

If you try those other fractions using this method, none of them comes out to 3/8.

kl, kg...anytime you see a "k" it means "kilo" or "thousands of."

If your NEW UNITS are SMALLER, the VALUE should get BIGGER.

If your NEW UNITS are BIGGER, the VALUE should get SMALLER.

So to convert FROM kl to l (definitely a smaller unit), move the decimal point to the RIGHT 3 places: .07 kl = .070 kl = 70 l

To convert from g TO kg (bigger unit, smaller number, right?), move the decimal point to the LEFT 3 places: 8.7 g = 008.7 g = .0087 kg

400 ml= how many liter? "m" stands for "thousandths" (move the decimal point 3 places LEFT for liters...

400 ml = .4 l

(I like to write in some extra zeros before or after to help me see where the decimal point goes.

To find out which of those fractions 3/8 is equivalent to, you have to ask yourself this question:

Is there a number I can multiply BOTH 3 and 8 by to get any of those other fractions. If so, then that's the one that's equivalent to 3/8.

For example, 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4 because I can multiply both 1 and 2 by 2 to give me 2/4.
