without a doubt - China

There are of course two obvious answers - China and India.

Both countries have populations over 1 billion (America's is only 300,000). Both countries also have economic growth rates of over 10% and although there is widespread poverty, at current rates of growth it is only a matter of time before they catch up with the US.

However, China is both more populous and more importantly ahead economically so is going to reach superpower status first. Moreover, the Chinese have a degree of ethnic homogeneity that India doesn't - hundreds of languages in many racially organised self-governing states all working under a laudable, but unfortunately chaotic, democratic system.

These factors, coupled with the economic and political control over its population that China's political system has given it will make China's growth into a superpower more assured and more rapid than India's.

America, of course, realises this, which is why it is pursuing a strategic partnership with India including the transfer of nuclear technology. India, in the long term, is the only country that can hope to counterbalance Chinese power.

Having said that, all this is some way off!

well, sorry guys, but China is going to fall. i saw on national geographic this thing called a super typhoon. It is where three large typhoons will combine and hit china. I live in japan and the japanese are always talking bout it. I think the US will be the super power for a while.

Since the USA has a Chimp in office. My best guess is Nigeria or Cameroon.

I am embarrased that the USA is a "super power", with a super idiot running it.

There is NO way the U.S.A.will ever let this world status of Super Power change or shift. I don't care who or what is in office.

There are far too many factors tied to this. Far too many.
