A US passport permits entries into most countries but some require a visa in addition and some are forbidden completely.

the passport is where the visa is supposed to go. if you obtain a visa, it is mentioned on your passport. also, the passport is a document, an identification device and it also shows your nationality, where the visa is emitted by a certain state to prove that you are allowed to go there, using your passport.

Passport: is an official permit/document issued by your government to certify your identity and citizen-ship. It gives you permission to travel abroad. I think its a combination of two words = Pass and Transport. It gives you the privilege of passage!
Visa: Is an official authorization/endorsement appended to your passport and made by the authorities, that permits you entry into a particular country after verifying and examining your qualifications to obtain it!
