Some people can't wear certain metals because their body's make up and acids affect the metal like brass and stainless steel or silver.
I can turn a silver necklace green in 2 days, same with silver plated & stainless steel. The only jewellery I can wear is pure gold never plated. There is nothing that can be done about it you just have to learn what ones you can and can't wear

The acid in your sweat makes the metal react an causes green discolouring, this wont happen with stainless steel

Cheap quality plated metals may rust or something like that. Otherwise you may have an allergy....or your gf has an allergy and she is speaking from her own personal experience. A frind of mine has an allergy and can only wear a rubber watch-strap. If you want a metal one , good quality stainless steel is probably the safest option.

This is a reaction to the acids in the skin. Do not wear you watch in bed at night as you sweat more at night and make it worse. Only wear your watch for a few hours in the day. You can buy something that coats the metal.

It's the metals (usually nickel) in the base metal mix of the watch and strap. Interestingly it seems the same thing happens if people wear cheaper base-metal framed glasses-ever noticed those yellow patches of hair above people's ears?!

I think I heard that due to perspiration or water that nickel and other metals can cause a reaction on the skin . Even though I think stainless steel is hypoallergenic if you are sensitive I think some nickel ions or other ions can still turn the skin black.

hi. sounds like you have what we call a " contact hypersensitivty reaction" cobalt and nickel are common metals used in watch starps and watches. they also happen to be the metals which cause most allergies. tyipically rashes and itching. my advise would be to change the watch.simple as that. you will find that the allergy will not get better unless you do this

The cause: a cheapskate boyfriend!
Avoid this by wearing them on someone else's arm.
