bring: shower shoes, lamps, flashlight, tool kit, batteries, first aid kit, extra long sheets, tape, dvd/vcr and movies, radio, alarm clock, ironing board and iron, cleaning supplies, vaccuume, wall decorations, plates and utensils, storage containers, hamper, hangers, curtains, ear plugs
Most importantly - get involved and join a club or two. Most colleges have hundreds to choose from so you should be able to find something that interests you.
Respect your roommates, talk to your professors, make time to study so you can do well in your classes, go to a sporting event, don't be afraid to say no, and have fun!

I just graduate from college and I was the best of my class. In order to achieve all that I set some goals when I was a freshman that helped me to have a lot of success. Here some tips for you:
1. The obvious: SET YOUR GOALS
2. Take your studies seriously, that means: give your classes and grades the importance they deserve. If you decided to study in college just be responsible for that decision.
3. Be very organize (with: your time, classes, homework, etc.)
4. Join college organizations and/or fraternities (will help you enjoy your college experience)
5. Be cautious with your new friends. Prefer to hang out with people that will help you to achieve your goals (not just buddies to get drunk).
6. Enjoy the ride. Have fun! (but never forget, why you are in college)
I wish you success!

Essentials: Shower basket to bring your stuff to/from the common bathroom and flip-flops for previously mentioned common bathroom. A book or two to read for fun @ the beginning of the semester when you don't have much homework. A calendar and weekly planner. A foam mattress to go on top of the mattress as college beds are notoriously uncomfortable and don't forget the XL twin sheets. an endless supply of quarters for the laundry room, unless your laundry is free like mine was. DVDs/VHS to watch on those nights when everybody's gone home for the weekend.

Depends on whether you want to succeeed or just "get by." If you only want to "pass" with C's and D's, then just do what everyone else does -- hang out with your friends most of the time, and then just cram for tests. Wait until the last week possible before even starting your papers/essays. If you want to make A's -- and A's are worth it, because they can translate into better schools and/or free education -- then stay ahead of the game. Plan your time well. Buy a calendar and schedule time to work on your papers. Aim to finish *early* rather than "on time." Succeeding in school is 40% effort and 60% time management.

The courage and wisdom to put studies before parties. Remember what you're there for. Also, communicate with your parents. Believe it or not, they love you and will help guide you.
