I have seen that america and other countries have completely outlawed the practice and research of stem-cells, but a gigantic downside to this ban is that many human lives could be saved and answers to global questions could be found if it were even partially outlawed. I see how people think it's immoral and don't want humans cloned but then why don't they just outlaw the full human cloning part and still have the stem-cells and save many human lives. I have seen how many people have suffered due to needing a kindey, lung, even heart but this solution would completely make those problems a thing of the past. So my question to you is, why? Why simply ban every single thing that has to do with this new and highly advanced life saving research? Why deny the struggle of those seeking organs for life? Why?

I can't speak for other countries and their policies, but I can say that stem cell research is not banned in the U.S., although Bush has suspended all federal funding for such research (as evidenced by the recent veto). I have always thought it strange that a country which has legalized abortion could have a problem with using embryonic stem cells for research purposes.

It's a little alarming to see some of the above answers, which demonstrate alot of ignorance about American politics. First, the use of stem cells is not a "Christian fundamentalist" issue. The House of Representatives, which liberals love to point out as "conservative-driven," actually passed a motion last week to re-instate government funding for stem cell research. It was Bush himself who vetoed this motion, not Christian fundamentalists.

Second, I find it amusing that someone would call Bush a murderer even though he is opposed to this research on the grounds that he feels it makes society an accomplice to murder.

Personally I am in favor of stem cell research and believe it has a great potential to help millions of people with various medical conditions. I am a Christian and am also a scientist, and I just urge everyone to become more informed before making blanket statements about these issues.

So the drug companies can keep making money. If everyone were cured of their illnesses, who would pay the drug pushers? What would be the need for specialist doctors? I could definitely stop trying to find a good internist, now wouldn't I? That guy would have to become a mechanic or something that pays much less, I am sure.
The truth is this, whomever lobbies the hardest (or screams the loudest) gets what they want. There are not enough "good reasons", from a political stance, to save the lives of so many that only matter to so few.
It is tragic and makes me sad because there ARE cures and there ARE answers. As long as the right wing is holding everyone else down, they can do whatever they want to, including killing innocent victims of disease. Yah can't tamper with God, honey. Not even in America. I would like for us to discover that humans are just a huge experiment in a giant petri dish. Then it would be okay to "tamper" since we would be a genetic experiment from the onset, but it's just wishful thinking.
George W. Bush is a murderer in every sense of the word...he's just able to call it politics and get away with it.

Actually, it isn't banned. The federal government in America is not paying for further testing on new lines of embryos, but will continue to pay for old lines. The old lines are not good enough to sustain research, but that is only through federal funding. In the Private Sector, meaning groups paying for the research from their own pockets, there is no ban. Only federal funds.

Your information is inaccurate, this research is not banned, merely opposed by Christian fundamentalists. Since they're the ones screaming the loudest they tend to drown out the moderate majority.

I doubt it's banned just not federally funded. Besides that wouldn't stop China or anyone else from doing it anyway. They already harvest living people from prison for body parts. No doubt they will try to create super-humans with it. Have a nice embryo. duck egg.....yuck..yuck....yuck

stem cells can be obtained from an embrio and its equivalent to kill a baby in the womb for research purpose. its a long standing debate.
