The current form of the Srilankan cricket team is to its best. The return of Jayasuriya caused it to an extent.
Considering the recent form, Srilanka has good chance for compete in the upcomming series and guide it to the world cup also.
Comming to the discussion for the world cup :
This 2007 world cup will be so exciting that there are many favorites.
Now a days ODI are turned away so much that who plays well on that day will win. So there is no team that we can say that it can win world cup.
The favourites are :
Australia - Their form is dangerous from a decade
South Africa - Their side has the best gifted all rounders and have good spirit
India - They also have chance of winning it if they get hold in bowling department as all are youngsters (need practise)
Pakistan - They have a good combination of youth and experience. The back bones (Haq, Younis, Yousuf) of batting are very important for their team to get the world cup. Thwy also have a good bowling line-up with Asif firing at the top.
Sri Lanka - Inspite of their downfall after the series in India, they got into the track and are playing nicely.
NewZealand - One should not underestimate this team as this team has some good bowling attack.
England - This is the team that had come to finals more number of times and not winning the cup. They are in deep trouble as their players often get injuries.
Of all Australia, South Africa, Srilanka and India are having more chance of winning this world cup. I am an Indian and I hope India will win it under the captaincy of " The Great Wall " (of India), Rahul Dravid.

yes.They have a great chance.
They have destroyed England in the last series a whitewash IN ENGLAND.
They can beat India easily when not paying with indian umpires.
They have beaten Australia in the 1st VB final and lost the second one due to a poor umpiring decision (ponting was given notout for a straight forward catch.)They have beaten South Africans comprehensively in the past 2 years.
They are the Asian champs too.
So I think they have the greatest chances to win.

Considering that the 2007 Cricket World Cup is to be held in the West Indies, I think it would be very difficult for the Sri Lankan Cricket team to win the tournament.
Sri Lanka have always been bad travelers and have a notorious record abroad. This has been majorly due to their flawed technique against moving and bouncing ball. Further, their spin-oriented bowling attack has often failed to contain or dismiss opposition batting lineups on seamer-friendly or batsmen-friendly pitches abroad.
But, as we saw in the recent series between India and the West Indies, the wickets in the caribbean have slowed down considerably, which should suit the Sri Lankans more than probably rest of the sub-continent teams and possibly the home team as well.
Sri Lanka, in recent years have built a young side which means that their out-cricket i.e. fielding, catching, running between the wickets has been quite outstanding.
Another important factor would be the slow caribbean wickets helping their spinnners. Sri Lanka, I feel have the best slow bowling combination in One Day International Cricket. They are led by the wily old fox - Muttiah Muralitharan, who with already over 300 wickets in One Day Internationals and over 600 in Test Cricket is the most successful spinner in international cricket, if we combine both forms of the game. Also, he seems to be improving day by day, as his recent record would confirm.
But, Muttiah Muralitharan is not alone when it comes to slow bowling for Sri Lanka in One Day Internationals. He is aided by the promising leg spinner, Malinga Bandara and the old man, Sanath Jayasuriya with his left arm spin. And when the going gets tough, you have the part time spinners - Tillekaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and others who can roll their arms over quite effectively.
If the pitches in West Indies continue to be slow and low, expect the Sri Lankan batsmen to make merry. The batting is led by the "Mauler from Matara" - Sanath Jayasuriya, with over 10000 runs in One Day Internationals, the talented Mahela Jayawardene, Marvan Atapattu, Tillekeratne Dilshan and the irrepressible, Kumara Sangakarra.
The up and coming Upul Tharanga has also done well, as was evident with his twin centuries in the recent One Day series vs England. The series in England was a resounding 5 - 0 whitewash in favour of Sri Lanka, which was highlighted by two centuries each from Mahela Jayawardene and Sanath Jayasuriya, and the world record partnership for the 1st wicket between Jayasuriya and Tharanga. This was followed by the team getting the highest team score in one day internationals - 443 against Ireland.
The Sri Lankan team is also bolstered by the presence of so many allrounders - Chaminda Vaas, Malinga Bandara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillekeratne Dilshan and Farveez Maharoof - who can change the complexion of the game at any given point of time.
The pace attack of Sri Lanka also has been in good form in recent times, as was evident on the recent tour of England. The ever-reliable Chaminda Vaas is the leader of the pack, and is aided by the pacy Lasith Malinga and Dilhaara Fernado, and the accurate Farveez Maharoof. Definetely worth taking notice.
But to consider Sri Lanka’s chances one has to look at what the other candidates are up to:
AUSTRALIA : Winners of the last two World Cups and overwhelming favorites this time too. The complete one day side and include in Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey - a very explosive batting side. But an ageing bowling side is a worry.
SOUTH AFRICA : Another dangerous one day side, has great all-rounders and a very good fielding side.
INDIA : Another explosive, but inconsistent batting side. Return of Sachin Tendulkar should bolster them, but a frail bowling side should be a bother.
NEW ZEALAND : Good fielding and a useful bowling side. Return of Shane Bond will be immensely important, and the spin duo of Daniel Vettori and Jeeten Patel should do well on the slow Caribbean tracks. But an inconsistent batting holds them back.
PAKISTAN : The mercurial Pakistanis are always a threat. Their batting looks solid with a good combination of experience and youth (Inzamam, Youhanna, Shoaib Malik, Butt, Younis Khan), along with dangerous all-rounder like Afridi, Razzaq, Akmal, etc. . Their bowling is also in the able hands of Asif, Shoaib, Sami, Rana Naved, etc..
WEST INDIES : The inconsistent West Indians could be a threat at home, as was evident in the recent ODI series vs. India. Performance Of Lara would be very important - both as captain as well as with the bat.
MY PICK WOULD BE ‘SOUTH AFRICA’ - I THINK THEIR TIME IS DUE.

who could believe that France would beat Brazil in the world cup, and Italy won the World cup.
If they have the feeling that they could win the w/c they could do it.
Hope they win the world cup, but for which game.
