the couch is for when the cramping is so bad we need to lie down
the groups are security thing
safety in numbers girls learn that in early childhood we call it the buddy system less likely to be attacked if your with a group

We gossip, plain and simple. And we want the positive reinforcement of another female in regard to how we look, etc. As for the couch, its a pamper thing.
