I'm just going to be there two weeks, and don't have time to get an international liscense.

Yes. I know for a fact that my Indiana (American) driver's licence is good for me to drive on in other countries. If you are only going to be in California for 2 weeks, you won't need to get an international driver's licence. You will however need the expensive insuranace option on the rntal you drive, unless you will be borrowing a friend/relative's car & then it is up to them to have full coverage or else pay if you wreck. LOL good luck & I hope you have a good time & enjoy yourself while you are here. I can't wait until the day I get to go to Japan.

You will no doubt be driving a rental car. Your rental agency in Japan should be able to answer this.
Be sure to look into liability insurance and laws. California has tough laws and stiff fines for infractions..
ALWAYS USE SEAT BELTS.

if you will be living in l.a yes you can as long as you get to dmv and get a california license after moving to l.a and make sure you get insurance california is a expensive place to get tickets believe me i had my share. good luck!
