This is very painful and makes me limp around about a half hour after I wake. Does anyone know what could cause this sort of stiffness? I do work a job where I am on my feet most of the time but it happens on my days off also. Any help would be appreciated. Serious answers only; please...

I agree, it sounds like it could be a condition called plantar fasciitis. The fascia is a tough connective tissue that spans the arch of your foot. It can become inflamed and very sore. If this is what your pain is coming from, there are some things you can do to help.

1. Ice massage over arch of foot. Rub ice cube over your arch for 10-20 minutes 3-5 times per day.

2. Put a tennis ball on the floor and place your bare foot on top of the ball so it rests in your arch. With moderate pressure, roll your foot back and forth over the ball for 20 minutes. Do this a few times a day. This will help to stretch the plantar fascia.

3. Taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen (Alleve) may help reduce the inflammation and pain. Check with your doctor before taking any new medication and do not exceed recommended dosage.

It could be plantar fascitis. Is that the only time there is pain in the arch?
