set goals for yourself to acheive milestones that you long for - that is THE #1 thing you can and must do. I know, I'm guilty of not doing enough myself. Take those goals and place where you will see and have to read them everyday, numerous times. You need reminders of what is that you want to acheive and a map to get there.

The second thing to do IS write yourself reminders or use a day calendar for your to do list. As you do them, check em off and once you see that you are making progress you will be encouraging yourself to do more to reach your goal.

Find something you love to do, find some people who love doing it, and dedicate yourself 100%.

This is really difficult for kids because you have family and school and however many other stupid things that need to be maintained. The easiest way to develop a habit though is to let it grow on you spontaneously. Sure, your parents and teachers and some other idiots may be telling you that you need to get focused and in line. If you're a complete goofball, then yah, they're right. But more likely than not, you're just thinking too much and making excuses which have some valid background with an ENORMOUS stretch of the imagination.

Next time you see or hear about something interesting, drop everything you're doing and go for it. It's going to feel a little weird (and don't do anything stupid like running out of class or across the street into oncoming traffic) but you need to eliminate what's giving you the ability to make excuses.

Specifically, do something that will give you a sense of accompishment WITHOUT a sense of self-improvement. Habitat for Humanity, mentoring, or even something manual like farm or highway labor is great for this. Doing something mindless, physical, and simple lets you feel secure even though you're somewhere you could be easily be recognized and embarrassed.

I'm not saying volunteering at a retirement home isn't OK, but there are better things for you to do than sit around listening to old-people's stories as a reward for helping them out. Going to a gym is OK also, but the whole point of going to a gym is to get in shape, and that requires discipline (and friends and a car and equipment and feeling OK changing in the nude...) which basically means you won't WANT to do it.

For now, just do what you gotta do and don't drive yourself crazy. Understand that although it may seem as though getting chores done gives or doesn't give you a tremendous sense of gratification, it will get other people off your back which means you'll be able to get more things done and you won't have to worry about THEM so much. If they ask you to do more and more, take the optimistic point of view and decide either to take a stand and demand something back or continue to go with the flow - the development of momentum in your relations with whomever it is and the building of discipline.

Best of Luck!!
