Of course they all aim to clean your clothes, and some supposedly make whites whiter or remove stains well, but I am asking because I want to know if cheaper detergents are not good for your clothes. I especially have trouble with black t-shirts fading and looking dull. Would it help to buy a better detergent than "Era" ?

the difference is water content and price. There are now detergents out there with color-guard..they really do work

The amount of active detergent is different in the different brands...So you use a smaller amount of the costlier detergent for the same amount of cleaning. Most detergents these days are soft on clothes..so fading could have more to do with the dye in the cloth rather than the detergent...

Black T-shirts will always fade quicker.Try washing them in cold water, inside out for a shorter period of time.It works great for my Harley shirts.
