Congress be wasting time and our $$$ on flag burning amendments is a distraction from real issues that they no intention or means or fixing. Good point to bring up. It is kind of a shame.

Well right now they need to not focus on things that could effect their elections. Like say raising how much we pay for gas, or the new bill they will introduce after the elections to contorl the internet more. See if they focused on these things they are afraid you wont vote for them. Also it is the curches that are crying about flag burning and since they vote more then the rest of the country and give lots of money to the congress they get more say over what is talked about. You would think that after 20 years of fighting over teh issue it would come to an end. But not as long as their are religious people pulling the strings of congress.

The U.S. Supreme Court has already determined that burning the flag or wearing it is protected by First Amendment rights to self-expression (i.e., freedom of speech). However, Congress keeps trying to pass a law that circumvents the Bill of Rights. But, that's not likely to happen.

However, the flag is a sacred symbol to many people. Most people do not know Supreme Court decisions. And, even if they do, emotion almost always wins over reason.

So, the bottom line is that we'll probably go on spending lives, time, and money trying to suppress this activity.

Depends. If you want to instill the fury and support of rabid right wingers and get them to vote, then it is a good issue, like abortion, prayer in school and border closings. Do you really expect progress or just political posturing?

Personally, if I were a US citizen, I would feel it my patriotic duty to wipe my *** in public with the US flag. Brown and red stripes forever!
