I have a 95 mitsubishi eclipse gs-t, and after driving about town for 20min or so, the engine rev's up to 2000 to 2500 (without driver influence) and the only way to stop it is to turn off the car, and leave it for 4 hrs or so. My mechanic said he could not find anything, is there anything I can do or look for to fix this? Or just go to another mechanic?

i suggest you go to a garage that has fault code readers as every fault in the running of the car is stored in the mainengine computor and what you are describing is probably a sensor fault which can be read by a fault code reader do not take it to a garage who do not have fault readers as they sometimes can charge you an arm and a leg by trying different options without knowing the true fault, also a garage with diagnostic equipment should be able to find fault but the easiest way is fault code reader jock

Check all of your vaccum lines and clean out the plentum. Check the TPS and EGR. Unplug the EGR and put a screw in the vaccum line going to it. If that fixes the problem, you can just leave it that way. Good luck.
