It is super hot here in So. California right now. Without Air conditioning everything turns warm. One thing I noticed at my friends house today was that, when I turned on his sink for cold water to cool down, it was luke warm at best. But at my house, when I turn on the Cold water in the faucet/sink ice cold water pours out. Without refrigeration, how does it supply vast quantity of very cold water?

cold water comes from an artesion well under groud. wells are how we get cold water. that is why there are well drillers and if you dig deep enough you can find cold water too.

Well first of all have you ever been caving? Underground caves typicaly stay at a median temperature for the region all year round. Perhaps somehow your water pipes because they run through the ground are making/keeping the water cold enough that in a relative sence the water appears ice cold. Have you actually gotten out a thermometer and measured the temperature of this water? It may be reperesentative of the median tempertures for your region deep underground. That or the maybe the government or some mad scientist has a secret cryogenic facility underground by your house. but i kind of doubt that.

It could be the way the pipes bringing the water to your house were placed that affects the temperature.
