Electric Welding of iron does not give electric shock to the welder though it consumes very high quantity of elecricity at that time. The welder works while sitting on the object being welded.

I have often thought about this, but the answer is, the thing we are welding on is grounded, so even if we are holding on the it, the current going through the object is going directly out, but in some special circumstances, if the object is not grounded, you can receive quite a jolt.

Welders wear a lot of protetcive clothing , Boots , gloves , chaps , ect......but when arc welding the risk is always there. I have got "bit" quite a few times! It seems to happen when I'm drenched with sweat and make contact with the backside of the rod-"where the welding rod is held by the stinger " It sure dose wake you up- and it makes you thankful for your boots !!!! But the biggest concerns are falling from object your welding , burns and fires , and flash-burn ( exposing eyes to the arc rays , causing serious burns ) BE CAREFUL !!!
