This past week the Voting Rights Act was approved by the Senate for another 25 yrs. Sounds good until you look at the "big picture". Why is there a Voting "ACT"??

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

If we are equal, why does and ACT have to approved for minorities to continue to vote? Why isn't it a f*cking law?!

Because when the country was first founded, African-Americans were considered 3/5ths of a man. The Founders of the Constitution originally defined slaves as 3/5ths of a person:

"Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons."

Then, of course, in order to change this, the 13th Amendment was adopted by the people (white people) following the Civil War, which outlawed slavery and elevated African-Americans, in particular, to full citizenry.

Many in the South, but not all, never fully accepted the consequences of their defeat in the Civil War and the passage of the 13th Amendment, requiring specific legislation at the Federal Level.

That's it in a nutshell. The Voting Rights Act contains a sunset provision so that it is periodically reviewed based upon the judgement of our elected representatives about progress under the Act.

All men are not created equal and we will never be. Because as long as there are rich men and poor men we will never be equal. The rich will always be making the decisions for the poor aka (Rich screwing over the poor) You don't actually think equality for all men is attainable?

because thesmall print of that document stated that men in the document only meant free white males over the age of 21 who held land.
