The only difference between mice and rats is the number of scales on their tails :-) . There's some species of mice that are as big, if not bigger than rats and there's species of rats that are smaller than mice. The largest species of rat, though, can weigh more than 5 pounds. The smallest species of mouse is smaller than a bumble bee.

So the answer your BF's question is no. Mice don't become rats when they go outside and rats don't become mice when they enter a house.

Mice and rats are 2 completely different animals. Neither can change into the other,Ever.
If you have a baby mouse it will not grow into a rat, either, just an adult mouse.
