Avatar can also mean a temporary manifestation. These little pictures we use to represent ourselves are a temporary internet manifestation.

avatar is hindi word. i don't think there is any other language would have this word similarly
however in telugu it is said as avataram

actually it was added to english dictionary sometime back so i suppose everone known what it means .
