Abnormal pap smears can happen to anyone and they do not prove anything is wrong, only that you should be checked again in the near future to rule out any problems. Since cervical cancer takes awhile to grow, so they don't rush to have you test again sooner. More than likely your re-test will come out fine.

If it was by chance termed 'cell dysplasia', as being the reason for calling it abnormal, its rather common. Cell dysplasia can even be caused by intercourse.

It would really need to be better defined as what they meant by it being 'abnormal'.

Regardless, if you feel uncertain, it wouldn't hurt to request a sooner test and tell them why you want it. Perhaps they could better explain why they chose the date they did for your return visit.

Good luck.
